AI assistance needs operational discipline

AI-assisted development is most useful when it is treated as an operating practice instead of a novelty. The work still needs clear requirements, small changes, reviewable diffs, and verification that matches the risk of the change.

The discipline is mostly ordinary engineering discipline: define the contract, inspect the existing pattern, make the smallest useful edit, and prove the behavior. The assistant can accelerate the loop, but it should not blur responsibility for the result.

For consultants and small teams, the opportunity is not just speed. It is the ability to make reasoning, assumptions, and tradeoffs more visible while keeping delivery lightweight enough to sustain.
